AIMHI
AIMHI (Achievement in Multi Cultural High Schools) is a group of nine decile one urban secondary schools where a large proportion of the schools’ student population come from Maori and Pacific Island Schools. Since 1998, AIMHI schools, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, have successfully completed a series of quality educational programmes based on the action plan. Some of the more significant of these programmes are featured on the AIMHI website www.aimhi.ac.nzAchievement Centre
Achievement Centre was established in 2000 and caters for students who have not experienced success in traditional educational settings. Some of these students were originally enrolled at Mangere College while others have come from other schools in the area.
The Centre is funded by the Government's Alternative Education initiative. The Achievement Centre is staffed by Erica Wilson (Manager) and Pauline McGrath (Teacher)
The Achievement Centre consists of a large working area that can be divided in half and that opens onto an enclosed courtyard. The facilities are pleasant and functional. Students have ready access to computers and enjoy working in the Centre.
Some students spend their whole day based in the Centre, while others attend some timetabled classes. Educational programmes are designed for each student and individuals are encouraged to regularly evaluate their programme and their progress. Pastoral Care is a major factor in the work of the Centre.
The Achievement Centre is clearly meeting the needs of an important group of students.
