The Kāinga Haka & Waiata Competition is a school-wide event that brings together students, staff, and whānau to celebrate Māori culture through haka and waiata. This competition is more than just a performance—it is a powerful expression of identity, unity, and pride that strengthens the bonds within our MC Whānau.
By participating, students develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership, while deepening their understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga. The event fosters whanaungatanga (relationships and belonging), encouraging every kāinga to stand together, support one another, and perform with passion. Through haka, we show strength and mana; through waiata, we share our voice and wairua. This years theme is He aha te mea nui o te ao? Māku e kī atu he tangata, he tangata, he tangata! -
‘What is the greatest thing in the world?' I will reply, 'It is people, people, people!'. All Kāinga groups will pick items that align with this theme. This competition is a vital part of our school culture, reinforcing values of respect, pride, and inclusivity.
Tū mai! Waiata mai! Kia kaha tātou!
