MC wins at Stand Up, Stand Out 2014

During the last month, music students have been involved in the Stand Up! Stand Out! Competition run by the Auckland Council.  Mangere College  entered four soloists and one group into this competition  and of those entered, three soloists and our New Breed Choir were successful in making it to the finals which were held at the Vodafone Event Centre, Manukau on 29 August.

The biggest heat, of seventy two entries, was the Vocal Solo section.  Jessica Puaavase and Veronica Tulafasa were successful in making it firstly, to the semi-finals and then on to the finals where there were only eight vocal soloists.  They were very strong competitors and are extremely talented.

Our third soloist on the night was Tearataua Tavioni who as well as being our youngest entrant went on to win the  instrumental soloist section on the Drums.

Last, but not least were our group finalists, the New Breed Choir.  This is the third year in succession, that choir director Ina Hicks has lead our choir to the finals.  We would like to acknowledge Ina Hicks for her expertise and commitment to the choir and for giving our students this opportunity.
