The Business Studies Department at Mangere College offers financial education for one term to all Year 9 students. This is to ensure that every junior student has exposure to and develops knowledge and understanding of basic financial matters. This will help them to become financially capable.

In Year 10, students can select to study a full year course in Business Studies where they incorporate their Year 9 knowledge and broaden their skills in Accounting, Business Studies and Economics. Therefore, this course introduces students to Accounting, Economic concepts and Business studies knowledge in making the right choice for their NCEA course pathways.

Year 11, 12 and 13 students can choose to do any three subjects, or all Commerce subjects. Accounting is useful for any person wishing to enter the world of commerce in such areas as being an Accountant, Business Management, Risk Management, Banking, Tourism, Marketing, Insurance, Information Technology, Resource Management, Finance, Consultancy, Advisory and Self-Employment and Venture Capitalists.

Economics is a social science involving the study of people and their activities relating to production, consumption and trade, or exchange. It is a study of the behaviour of individuals, their work, decisions of what to produce, where to locate and how to market, and the activities of Government. A thorough study is also made of major economic issues, i.e. unemployment, inflation, budget deficits, trade imbalances and economic growth as well as monetary policy and fiscal policies and OCR.

Business Studies introduces you to the world of business. It covers Human Resources, Marketing, Research and running of the business by learning how to make a business plan, promoting and marketing your business and selling your product in different markets. Students learn about costing and pricing of the products. Business can help you in any profession.
